Halite Void: a Bombproof Do-Anything Duffel
You might not have heard of Halite before. But this Norwegian brand have been quietly getting on with the business of supplying bags for use in some of the toughest environments in the world. Maritime operations. Himalayan expeditions. The kind of harsh conditions where reliability, functionality and durability are vital gear requirements.
But when you look at the background of the brand, this dedication to creating the right gear for these challenging settings starts to make sense. Halite was founded by ex-military personnel with backgrounds in special operations, as well as designers with top-notch outdoor, climbing and expedition expertise. Formerly going by the name Piteraq Hardware, which supplied military and expedition gear for eight years, Halite signals the growth and development of a brand that constantly strives for excellence in expedition and military gear. And naturally, the quality and functionality of such gear lends itself to a wider range of users too. Gear like the Halite Void. A bombproof duffel designed to embrace pretty much anything you can throw at it.
Burly and then some
Duffels are gear haulers. And expedition-ready duffels don’t have an easy time of it. From sharp, rugged terrain to battling the elements, they really get put through the wringer. So Halite designed the Void duffel accordingly, starting with a solid foundation: super tough and weatherproof construction. The main body of the bag is PU-coated 1000D Cordura Nylon with a 2,000 mm hydrostatic head to protect against rain and snow.
The rugged base is made with a durable, abrasion-resistant and chemical-resistant 840D High Tenacity Nylon with a waterproof double-sided TPU coating. You also won’t find any ground level seams on this bag, enhancing the weatherproof protection. Need to set it down on wet or dirty surfaces? No problem. The main opening features a burly #10 YKK zipper which is also covered for added protection from the elements.
Adventure-ready access
Speaking of the main opening, the Void features a wide-opening main compartment that lets you easily peruse the contents at a glance and get to specific items quickly. Additionally, the lid can be laid flat to double as a mat for changing clothing or swapping shoes. The bag is also padded internally with 5mm foam to help protect the contents against bumps and sharp edges. And the padding also enhances the weight balance and carry comfort too.
Optimized organization
The duffel offers a practical selection of organization options. Just enough to keep smaller items tidy and provide flexibility, without unnecessary excess pockets. Externally there are end and back zippered pockets, as well as top and side daisy chains. Internally you benefit from zippered end and front pockets and compression straps to secure the load in transit. And the bag also offers an ID window with a contact card.
Practical portability for adapting on the go
Duffels traditionally aren’t the most comfortable bags to carry. But Halite solves this problem with a contoured EVA composite foam shoulder harness for excellent load-bearing comfort. For added stability and comfort the Void also has a custom-designed sternum strap that can be used one-handed, with a flat design to increase its durability.
And since good duffels should embrace grab-and-go portability, you’ll also find carry handles at each corner and both ends for easy maneuverability over shorter distances and within tight spaces.
Many missions, many options
Whether you want to use this bag on an extended adventure, for travel carry or as a general outdoor hauler, you’ve got options to accommodate different loads and style preferences. The Void comes in three colorways including the more subdued Blazer and Crocodile, as well as Flame when you want gear that will stand out in its surroundings.
You also have a choice of four sizes including 39.5L, 82L, 110L and 150L, weighing in at 1.1 kg, 1.4 kg, 1.7 kg and 2 kg respectively. Not bad on the scales at all when you consider the tough build and comfy harness.
When compromise isn’t an option
The Halite Void is a bag built for demanding use in environments where durability, functionality, comfortable portability and weather protection are necessities. An unassuming bag built to knuckle down when there’s work to be done. If you want to check it out yourself you can find it through US retailer Sackwear or through a variety of international retailers.
